PM calls for placing high priority to response to Typhoon Noru
PM Pham Minh Chinh addresses the event
The PM made the statement at the September 26 national online conference on accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital and implementing the three national target programmes.
PM Chinh requested that localities remain highly vigilant, closely monitor the storm’s developments, and promptly implement directions given by central agencies, while also calling on fishing vessels to seek safe shelter from the storm and supporting farmers to protect their aquatic farms.
Along with ensuring the safety of reservoirs and dams, it remains crucial to evacuate people in areas which are at high risk of landslides, said the PM.
Localities have therefore been urged to instruct residents to strictly implement preventive measures and evacuate people from dangerous areas, as well as taking prompt actions to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has advised the PM to establish a sub-steering committee to respond to Typhoon Noru in the central region, with Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh being the head of the unit.
The sub-committee will work to support localities as they directly monitor and regularly report to the PM amid the implementation of drastic solutions in emergency situations.
This comes after Deputy PM Thanh signed an official dispatch on September 25 requesting that relevant agencies focus on directing storm response activities in affected localities.
According to the dispatch, typhoon Noru is a powerful storm that is moving fast and is expected to make landfall in the central region on the evening of September 27. Upon impact, it will hit the coastal areas from Quang Tri to Binh Thuan, causing heavy downpours in the northcentral, central, and central highlands regions.
